Communication over Polymer Optical Fiber

Increasing data rates and the trend towards low-cost “cabling” requires the use of advanced communication algorithms for fiber optic communication systems. Many of these techniques can be borrowed from wireless communication systems, but the specific properties of the wireline channel must be taken into account. Furthermore, the significant wider bandwidth, available in fiber optic systems poses severe implementation challenges for the circuit implementation.

Specific current areas of interest are:

  • Communication system design for Plastic Optical Fibers
  • High speed channel decoding for communication in the Gbps range
